  • Vivace at the Symphony

Filed under: Uncategorized by grocerybike @ 9:57 pm |

First, don’t go alone. It didn’t seem the group is condusive to meeting new people as much as hanging out with already established friends or a date. Otherwise, a great night. The music seemed to be the background to my thoughts. It was relaxing.

Food at the New Yorker wasn’t as great as I’d hoped (my expectations were too high, I was very hungry). But still delicious. My date is one of the most brilliant men I’ve ever met. He had the other women at our table enthralled by his business plans.

I hoped to meet some members of the orchestra or the artist, but didn’t get a chance. I’ll go again next month because we won free tickets for dressing up. I can’t wait! Here are some pictures…please keep in mind that it was late. I worked really hard on the hair and makeup but it’s now about 2am…

    1. You know … you’re right. And I’m just as guilty as the next person.

Admittedly, the turnout this performance was overwhelming … I think we had twice as many people as we did with the last one. But still … that’s no excuse.

I promise I’ll do better at the next event. And maybe some of the others will follow suit.

I hope this doesn’t put you off from attending again.

    2. Dave, no worries. I remember you, plus you’re now my friend for commenting on my blog! As you can see I haven’t marketed it yet and we need commenters.

I think there needs to be some sort of social event before the symphony or before the New Yorker (post-concert discussion). I’m biased to think it should just be for the singles.

Of course I’ll attend again - I’m just saying I’d attend with a friend or date, not on my own.

Sometimes it’s nice to just show up and not have to coordinate schedules (like I like to at live music nights at Borders).

      Best-
      Janet

    3. Hey Janet:

We used to do Vivace only pre-concert discussions but the general feedback was that it made for too long of an evening. But we could always try it again! As long as the after-parties are at restaurants (which is mostly the case since caterers aren’t much for donating - know any great caterers?), we probably wouldn’t do something that was a formal discussion, although we always encourage people to talk at the after-parties about the music. It would make the arrival at the restaurant way to late.

But - great suggestions! Mingling more is something we always talk about at the Vivace Advisory Councils. You have great ideas - if you’re interested in joining the council, let me know.

      Rock on!

    4. Crystal, thanks for commenting! I thought we’d get to meet the artist or members of the symphony at the New Yorker. An informal intro and chat where people could ask questions for 20 mins. would be great.

I love the arts and the group is getting a great response. Thanks for your hard work!

Give me a call and we can chat (I gave Dave my number in my last email).

      Best
      Janet
