I love Halloween… here are some more events:

    Monday, OCTOBER 30th
‘Twas the night before Halloween and all through the haunted house
All the creatures were stirring, in dark mist they were doused…
Come Monday, October 30th for tricks, treats and {what would Halloween
be without it?} a DANCE PARTY!

Where: 1311 Royal Troon #10 (Janet’s note: I don’t know what city and there were no more details).
    When: The Witching Hours ~ 8:30 {after FHE} until 11:30-ish at
Wear your best cape, sharpest fangs, most glittery tiaras & join our
    Dead Man’s Party.

    Tuesday, October 31st
So my friends are having this HUGE! HUGE party on TUESDAY! It seriously is going to be great. His house is pretty dang cool. they are having a costume contest, dancing, food, drinks (but purely non alchoholic), did I mention dancing, he has a foosball table, ping pong, hot tub, big screen tv’s, hot guys and girls, a Pool table, I even think there was air hockey, did I mention dancing? I promise he always throws a good party. Don’t be ridiculous! COME! IT will be the Halloween party of the year.

2794 Shady Hollow Loop, LEHI, UT 84043

It sounds far but really its not, Its the first exit at the point of the mountain. Take the Alpine exit 284 and head east, turn left onto the frontage road. Then Right at the next light Cabellas BLVD. Then Left again you are now on Grand Terrace Pkwy. Turn left at the first street into the neighborhood that is Shady Hollow Loop. His house is in the corner of the loop. 2794

Bring all of your friends! But most of all bring you!

    Vivace at the Symphony

Filed under: Uncategorized by grocerybike @ 9:57 pm | Comments (4)

First, don’t go alone. It didn’t seem the group is condusive to meeting new people as much as hanging out with already established friends or a date. Otherwise, a great night. The music seemed to be the background to my thoughts. It was relaxing.

Food at the New Yorker wasn’t as great as I’d hoped (my expectations were too high, I was very hungry). But still delicious. My date is one of the most brilliant men I’ve ever met. He had the other women at our table enthralled by his business plans.

I hoped to meet some members of the orchestra or the artist, but didn’t get a chance. I’ll go again next month because we won free tickets for dressing up. I can’t wait! Here are some pictures…please keep in mind that it was late. I worked really hard on the hair and makeup but it’s now about 2am…

    Affordable LDS Art

Filed under: Inspiring Thoughts by grocerybike @ 8:06 pm | Comments (1)

Ok, I’m going to admit it — I’m not a big fan of most LDS art. Most of it just isn’t my style.

Recently though I decided I want a bunch of different temples framed in different sizes and styles for my bedroom wall. I want it to be funky and slightly modern. But so far, nothing is quite right. The idea being: if I can’t be in the temple I’ll bring the temple to me in my home (my personal temple).
I’ve never really been one to have a lot of LDS art in my home. I think it’s hokey. I really can’t stand folk art and cutesy craft sayings either. But then recently I feel images bring a feeling and I wanted to create a good atmosphere in my home with art.

I went to the church history museum and saw some excellent pieces. One I loved just had the Saviour’s feet above the ground. They had the nail marks. It’s the most beautiful image of Joseph Smith’s first prayer I’ve ever seen (I went on a mission to upstate New York so the events there mean a lot to me).

Well I found a site that has gorgeous LDS prints, framed, for around $100. I love this one of the creation, it’s just gorgeous and moving. It’s not modern art but it has a great feel to it and it’s not the same old. Check it out.

    The Web 2.0 Wedding

Filed under: Inspiring Thoughts, Uncategorized by grocerybike @ 7:25 pm | Comments (0)

funkywedding.jpgWhen I get married again I want a web 2.0 wedding. Plus I’d like to write about the experience for a magazine:
How I Saved $10K on my Wedding with Affiliate Marketing.

I’d like a wedding blog and have affiliate links to online stores. The wedding invitation would direct you to a web site to RSVP and get on the wedding email list. I’d like to chronicle the whole thing and how much money was saved by doing it online with affiliate marketing (you earn a % of every sale made). I’m a big fan of Overstock.com for housewares. If you can register for gifts there, you’d earn 20% on every wedding present purchased. That could help fund the honeymoon.

We’d have youtube videos and we’d podcast the wedding RECEPTION live to friends who can’t attend (since we can’t podcast or video a temple ceremony). And we can get an iTunes djay for dancing (there must be dancing). I bet even people who didn’t know us might watch if we blogged it up and sent press releases. There could be laptops on every table with the wedding site and even live pictures and video feeds from the event.

So I found a geek who proposed to his girlfriend online, with a funny spoof web site made to look like eHarmony dating site: www.daveloveselizabeth.com. It’s SOOOOO FUNNY and it’s sweet too. Google maps of where they met and the whole thing on the World Wide Wed, lol. I love how he planted comments from famous people in the blog comments. And the fake magazine articles. Hilarious. Plus they met at church and it all feels so blessed and happy. I can’t wait until these two have children!

I just have to find a groom with the tech skills to pull this off. I’m not even close on that one. If you’re even thinking about it, better get over to godaddy and reserve www.janetwillyoumarryme.com right now — before it’s taken ;)

    Top 10 Great Date Ideas

Filed under: Hot Date Ideas, Uncategorized by grocerybike @ 4:54 am | Comments (0)

campingdinner.jpgLooking for a date idea that suits your style? Here are some of my best ideas for a great date:

    1. Take a Dive or a Soak
    The Crater at the Homestead
A 55-foot-deep crater at the Homestead resort that offers scuba diving. They even offer certification. It’s a natural hot tub with temperatures between 90 and 96 degrees.700 N. Homestead Drive, Midway. 888-327-7220 If you’re brave (and not for a first solo date) there are free hot springs in Lehi and (a long hike) in Spanish Fork Canyon (see soak.net). I don’t recommend going on weekends as the crowd can be…interesting.

    2. Get a Bargain on a Movie
    Carmike 12 West Jordan
Get into a new release for $5 any time or a matinee for $4. 1600 W. Fox Park Drive, West Jordan 801-562-5760

    3. Free Entertainment on the streets of Salt Lake City (dress warm, bring spare change)
Outside of the Broadway Centre a guy named Eli Potash often plays the cello. Live music for pennies. While you’re there, see a film. They are often higher quality or art films. 111 East Broadway
Salt Lake City, UT 84111 View Map
    (801) 321-0310

    4. Steak Take Out Dinner
Go to Steak Out (call ahead on your way out) and ordering a fancy steak dinner to go. Then eat it somewhere creative (on china at home, your condo clubhouse, on a ski tram, at Borders, or at a park assuming it’s warm weather). They also deliver. Add tea candles all around your table or space or string lights to add atmosphere. I’m not responsible if they kick you out of Borders.

    5. Local Art Museums
I also like the BYU or U of U art museums (BYU has a cafe but call for hours). If you’re not up on your art, perhaps you could book a docent to walk you through. There’s also the Springville Art Museum ( 126 East 400 South Springville, Utah) and The Trolley restaurant (1948 E 1250 S, Springville, (801) 489-8585) is nearby with Rod’s quesadillas on the menu. If you’re in Provo, Get desert at the hip Pudding on the Rice.

    6. Cross Country Ski
When there’s snow: Cross Country Ski the latern lit trails of Sundance.

    7. Best Way to Get some Culture
    Utah Symphony or Opera
Vivace for 20-40somethings single or married (meet artists afterwards - ticket price includes food). On the way ask your date to read about the artist and program so you’ll be informed and maybe have some things to ask the artist after the show.

    8. Best Way to Prolong a Date
I used to love going to the Gear For Guys Shop in the University Mall after a date, if it’s going well. They had a hammock swing and then later got a race car track. I’m not sure if it’s still there.

    9. Most Romantic Dinner Idea
I’m still a sucker for the classic dinner out. If you’re looking for particularly romantic choice, I vote the Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon.

    10. Best Chill Date
Ask someone to join you in something you already have to do (like your grocery shopping, not your dishes). Need to decorate for Christmas or Halloween? Have to bake a cake for your mom? Why not invite along some company? I’ve always liked these kinds of dates.
Don’t have a date? See my post on the book, How to Get a Date Worth Keeping. I hope this has inspired you to get busy and ask someone out. The central idea that I love besides just not being apathetic, is to date to learn about yourself and others, not focusing on marriage potential early on.
Another thing, use that camera phone - send us pictures from your fun dates. Who knows, you might even see yourself on this blog!

    What is Conversion?

Filed under: Uncategorized by grocerybike @ 4:36 am | Comments (0)

I mean to blog more about being single in the church, but I find instead wanting to write about issues of spirtuality and healing. Since it’s my blog, who’s to stop me?

I read a very moving story, like a scriptural story about someone who really understands the purpose of life (a Meridian Magazine article). He applies the gospel in very poignant ways.

If you ever lose the companionship of the Holy Ghost you’ll suddenly be aware of how much he guides you in such small almost inperceptable ways. If you’ve been a member your entire life you may take this for granted. This man explains well how the spirit changes your life, even if you were already a good person before you were baptised.
This man writes about working with sex offenders, which I would think would be soul-damaging work. However, his story is sweet and beautiful. He gets it. He writes about the spirit yelling an answer to him during church! I wonder how often the spirit yells. I’d like to hear that.

In this week’s institute class we talked about the worst possible things that could happen to you. When we’re young, they are usually smaller things. As you get older, much worse things can happen. But his final point was, the worst possible thing is if Jesus Christ hadn’t gone through with the atonement. If he said no. Once that was finished, the worst possible thing for us is if we don’t repent (change) so we benefit from the it. Almost every possible sin (except one, right?) is covered.

When I recognize conversion in a person it lifts me. This article and the lesson from institute are very peaceful and reassuring. As a missionary I always loved witnessing conversion. It is sacred. I felt honored to be a guest and watch others experience it and at the same time experience my own conversion more deeply.

I feel in life, God is always pointing us to deeper and deeper conversion. Usually that involves getting longer and more complicated trials. We usually can’t understand what is going on while it’s happening. But at the other end we see how it has changed our perspective. Ultimately we realize that we’re not being punished, we are simply in a process of becoming more like Him.

One of my favorite scriptures shows the outcome of this process:

Jeremiah 13:9. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined: and I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say: Thou art my people: and they shall say: The Lord is my God.

and Alma 37:11 is another. I was once led to this when I was trying to understand something. Now I apply it in many different situations…

Now these mysteries are not yet fully made known unto me; therefore I shall forbear [endure, let it go, be patient, choose to bear not knowing].
